The East Side development committee is getting some help with a plan for East Side School, thanks to the Durrant Group of Dubuque.
David Faldet of the East Side committee said Durrant was the main architechtural firm to coordinate the riverfront development project in Dubuque.
“We were impressed with the fact they helped pull the community together to make sure there would be a coordinated effort with regard to that project,” said Faldet.
“That Dubuque project started as the headquarters for their historical society … it went from something small into a huge development.”
Faldet added Durrant has a history of helping organizations develop their projects to ensure they will fit available grant monies. Faldet said Durrant will help the committee develop a community vision for East Side that will make it fit into Decorah's plan for growth and development over the next 20 years.
The Committee is scheduled to present its plan to the Decorah School Board Monday, June 13, and anticipates that representatives from Durrant will assist in that process.
Seminar planned
The development committee is looking for input from the community regarding planning and fund-raising for the East Side renovation project.
A planning session is scheduled for Saturday, June 11, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Decorah Middle School media center. Representatives from Durrant and the East Side development committee will be there to receive community feedback and to further discuss the project.
