The season came to an all-too-early end for the Decorah girls basketball team as the Vikings fell to Charles City 53-46 Wednesday in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs. 
Decorah ends the year 4-18 overall. Charles City (13-8) fell to Class 4A No. 5 Waverly-Shell Rock (18-3) 55-40 Saturday. 
The Vikings scored the first points of the game Wednesday night and led 4-0 before the Comets got on the board. Decorah led the rest of the way in the opening stanza, going up 17-13 after eight minutes.
The Vikes built the lead to six at 21-15 early in the second. After the Comets cut the lead to four, the Vikes went back up 23-17 with two minutes remaining. That score held for the halftime break.
Charles City made its move in the third quarter. The Comets held Decorah to just five points in the eight-minute period. That allowed them to get their first lead of the night, up 32-28.
