Year in review: Third quarter

July 2 - From low to high, the Decorah baseball team ended the week strong, splitting two games with Waverly-Shell Rock. The Vikes lost the first game 7-0 while Decorah won the second 3-2 in nine innings.

Grabbing three wins in the latter part of the week, the Decorah softball team improved to 12-14. Decorah swept Charles City in two games and defeated MFL in non-conference action.
After a lengthy break between games due to weather, the South Winn baseball team went 3-for-3 last week, defeating Waukon and Postville. South Winn is now 22-4.
July 4 - It was a good week on the diamond for the Decorah baseball team as the Vikes grabbed three non-conference wins. The Vikes defeated East Waterloo 10-0 and 5-1 and Clayton Ridge/Central 3-2.
The conference season came to an end for the South Winn baseball team as the Warriors blew out North Fayette. The Warriors claimed second place in the Upper Iowa Conference with a 12-4 record.
Drew Pellett will be returning to the pool this winter as he has been named to the head boys swim coach position. Pellett previously held the post for five years from 2007-12.
July 9 - Looking to gain some momentum before the start of the playoffs, the Decorah softball team headed to Calmar to take on South Winn in non-conference action. Decorah got the win 5-3.
The Turkey Valley softball team ended the regular season on a five-game win streak, taking fifth in the conference.
Decorah's Josey Jewell finished second in votes for the Gazette's 2013 Male Athlete of the Year award.
