Nov. 5 - Kelly Minear and the Decorah girls cross country team will never forget November 2, 2013. Minear helped the Vikes win their second consecutive state title and sixth in school history by breaking a tie with MOC-Floyd Valley. Also competing at state, the Decorah boys were third in Class 3A, the South Winn boys earned third in Class 1A, the South Winn girls were fourth in Class 1A and Turkey Valley's Ryan Izer took seventh individually.

The gym was different but the result was the same as the Turkey Valley volleyball team fell to Class 1A No. 7 Tripoli 0-3 to end the year at 20-14.

All three area football teams survived the first round of the playoffs. Decorah rolled 34-7 over DeWitt, South Winn took care of South Hamilton 46-20 and Turkey Valley knocked off BCLUW 46-14.

Nov. 7 - There's a reason you play two halves of a football game, and South Winn proved that, shocking Class 1A No. 2 Dike-New Hartford 36-17 in the second round of the playoffs. The Warriors scored 30 second-half points to get the win.

An epic battle will take place in the Class 3A quarterfinals as the Decorah football team will face Solon. The Vikes advanced by defeating Maquoketa 40-24 in the second round.

Three second-half touchdowns by No. 9 Gladbrook-Reinbeck was too much for the Turkey Valley football team to overcome in the second round of Class A playoff action. The Trojans lost 22-34 to end the year 7-4 overall.
