What a day for Winneshiek Co. harriers; Four teams, one individual to state

The defending champions will be back on the course and ready for another title run.

For the 30th and 22nd times, respectively, in school history, the Decorah boys and girls cross country teams are headed to the state cross country meet and will be defending their 2012 state titles.
The two squads advanced to state by earning automatic bids at the state qualifying meet in Waverly Thursday. The girls team finished first while the boys took second.
In addition to Decorah, the South Winn boys and girls team also automatically advanced to state, by each finishing second at the Class 1A state qualifying meet in Jesup.
Individually, Turkey Valley's Ryan Izer will be back at state for the second year in a row. Izer finished third at the state qualifying meet in Jesup.
The top three teams and top 10 individuals from each qualifying site in every class advanced to the state meet.
The state cross country meet is Saturday, Nov. 2, in Fort Dodge at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course. The 3A girls run at 12 p.m., with the boys at 12:30 p.m. The awards ceremony for Class 3A is at 1:20 p.m. The South Winn girls will run in Class 1A at 2 p.m., with the South Winn boys and Izer in Class 1A at 2:30 p.m. The awards ceremony for Class 1A is at 3 p.m.
