It was a big early part to the busy week for the South Winn baseball team (12-2, 4-2 UIC) as the Warriors swept MFL, then took down non-conference Crestwood.
Monday the Warriors traveled to Monona to take on MFL in a conference double header. In the first game the Warriors used timely hitting to win 13-6. The Warriors built a 7-0 lead when MFL came back with four runs in the bottom of the third. After the teams traded runs in the fourth, South Winn sealed the win with four runs in the fifth.
The Warriors had season highs in runs, hits and walks and produced 11 RBIs.
"It wasn't what I would call a real clean game, but for the first time this year, we had to out-slug the other team offensively for the win. It was nice to see because all year we have been relying on our pitching to get us a victory, so for the offense to take over and relieve some pressure on pitchers was good," said Coach Ben Obermann. "MFL did make some mistakes defensively, but that was due to the fact we kept the pressure on them by consistently putting the ball in play hard. When we don't strike out offensively, we can be a solid-hitting team."
