It will be an inexperienced team that takes the field for the South Winn softball team this season.
Returning letter winners for the Warriors are, from left, front row - Courtney Humpal, Brittany Shindelar, Abby Hageman, Kendal Kuboushek, Morgan Bohr.
With five returning letter winners and just three seniors, the Warriors will have a lot to learn during the season.
In charge of putting the team together is Head Coach Jeff Krueger, who has led the team for four seasons.
The Warriors returned eight letter winners a season ago. However, that didn’t translate into wins.
The Warriors had a solid Upper Iowa Conference year, going 8-10 to finish sixth in the league.
The bats were alive in the first round of the Class 2A regional, with the Warriors using two home runs to power past Wapsie Valley 10-3. The season came to an end in the quarterfinals as the Warriors fell to Sumner-Fred 12-2 in five innings. SW ended the year 12-21 overall.
As a team, the Warriors hit .266 at the plate, with a .317 on-base percentage and a .343 slugging average. Overall, they scored 125 runs on 230 hits. That included 29 doubles, seven triples, eight home runs and 114 RBIs. The pitching staff had a 3.07 ERA, with opponents batting .250 against them.
