The South Winn baseball team improved to 9-2 overall and 2-2 in the Upper Iowa Conference after splitting a conference set and winning two at the Riceville Tournament Saturday.
Thursday the Warriors hosted Clayton Ridge/Central in a conference double header. In the first game, the Warriors fell 4-2.
"We were never quite able to get anything going in the first game of the double header. We were unable to get anything going offensively against the Clayton Ridge/Central pitcher (Dylan Preston) until the sixth inning, and by that time we were down 4-0," said Coach Ben Obermann. "Clayton Ridge/Central has been very young the past couple of years, and now their lineup has 2-3 years of varsity experience, which definitely shows. They are a talented group who will give people problems in all facets of the game all season long."
The Warriors had six hits. Jordan Rommes was 3-for-4 with a stolen base for the only player with multiple hits.
