A slow night offensively was the demise for the South Winn softball team Wednesday as the Warriors fell to Denver 2-0 in the second round of regional action.
Denver went on to defeat MFL 4-0 in the regional semifinals. The Cyclones (25-8) faced North Butler (17-8) in the regional finale, with the winner going to state.
South Winn ends the season 13-20 overall.
Wednesday night the Cyclones struck first, scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning. They added an insurance run in the sixth inning.
Incoming freshman Taylor Buchheit took the loss. In six innings, she gave up three hits and two unearned runs while striking out seven.
The Warriors had just two hits. Buchheit and Savannah Nesvik both singled.
The Warriors graduate three seniors – Kendal Kuboushek, Monica Ryant and Courtney Humpal; however, the bulk of the team returns next season.
