The Warriors will be battling the other UIC foes, plus the challenge of finding some proven scorers to replace four graduated seniors, when they take the court this season.
In charge of putting together another solid team is Head Coach Mike Johnson. In five years, Johnson has compiled a 56-32 overall record.
The Warriors of 2011-12 put together a season fans won't soon forget. They finished second in the UIC at 14-2, with the only losses to league champion Sumner-Fredericksburg.
The Warriors faced a scare in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs against North Fayette before eventually pulling away 42-32. In the quarterfinals they easily ran past Clayton Ridge 77-36. The semifinal match pitted the Warriors against Sumner-Fred for the third time in the season. In the end, the Cougars proved too strong, winning 68-41 to end South Winn's season at 18-6.
The Warriors connected on 48.6 percent of their field goals and 47.8 percent of their three-point shots while averaging 54.2 points a game, the most in the league. The defense was also stellar, allowing just 30.5 points a game for a 17.4 points per game differential.
The Warriors dished out 356 assists, 379 steals and blocked 63 shots. They led the league in total rebounds with 876 - 363 on offense and 513 on defense.
