In preparation for the Upper Iowa Conference meet next week, the South Winn and Turkey Valley boys and girls cross country teams competed against one another and three other teams at the Crestwood Invite Saturday.
The girls had just four points separating them. South Winn took second with 49 points while Turkey Valley was third with 53 points. Crestwood won the meet with 30 points.
South Winn was led by Jessica Lechtenberg, who finished seventh in 17:31, with Lindsey Buddenberg eighth in 17:40 and Kennidee DeVilbiss in ninth in 17:47.
Finishing in the top 20 were Kelly Kuboushek, 12th, 18:17; Mikayla Lien, 13th, 18:18; Domenic Boe, 15th, 18:31; and Kiersten Wenthold, 16th, 18:32.
The JV girls also did well, scoring 19 points. Abby Phillips was the overall JV champion in 19:00. Taking the silver was Eleanor Lofte in 19:07. Also scoring were Alexis Patterson, fourth, 20:05; Nicole Kuboushek, fifth, 20:38; and Savannah Nesvik, seventh, 20:58. Rounding out the JV team were Taylor Claman, 13th, 22:50; Marissa Holthaus, 15th, 23:16; and Heidi Vsetecka, 16th, 25:02.
For Turkey Valley, Olivia Reicks was the silver medalist out of 34 competitors, with a time of 16:53. Josine Gossling was right behind her in fourth in 17:04, with Rebekah Shindelar taking sixth in 17:28. Monica Harper earned 20th in 19:42, Allie Rausch 21st in 19:50, Jenna Winter 23rd in 19:56 and McKenna Reicks 27th in 20:47.
In the JV race, Haley Klimesh took 10th in 22:00, Chloe Reicks 12th in 22:49 and Robin Kime 13th in 23:26.
