One point, just one point separated the Class 1A No. 12 South Winn and Class 1A No. 6 Turkey Valley boys cross country teams Thursday night at the Upper Iowa Conference meet, held at Tri-City Golf Course in Luana.

South Winn came through with one less point, winning the UIC title with 49 points. It's the eighth year in a row the Warriors have captured the gold at the big meet. Turkey Valley finished second with 50 points. That's an improvement from last year, when the Trojans took fifth.

In the girls meet, South Winn, ranked No. 4 in Class 1A, finished second with 63 points. Central, ranked No. 2, won the meet with 50 points. Turkey Valley had one harrier in the varsity contest.



Champions

Danny Halva of North Fayette Valley won the meet in 17:03.06.

Turkey Valley's Ryan Izer, ranked No. 12 in Class 1A, was just steps behind. The junior took the silver in 17:10.88. Last year Izer was ninth in 17:53.

Four seconds behind him, South Winn's Nathan Meyer, ranked No. 22, crossed the finish line third in 17:14.12. Meyer took third last year as well.

For the Warriors, No. 23 Devin Franzen came in fourth overall in 17:30.59. Brian Kleppe broke into the top-10 and earned all-conference status. He was ninth in 18:31.97. Alex Upton and Lucas Brincks crossed the finish line together. Upton was 16th in 18:49.75 while Brincks took 18:51.56, earning 17th.
