The Decorah girls tennis team had a busy weekend, hosting Oelwein Thursday and the first round of regional play Saturday against Dubuque Wahlert, Oelwein and Osage.

Thursday
Thursday the Vikings defeated Oelwein 5-4. Picking up victories were Kelsey Kruse, Madi Sparrow, Laura Munkel/Kally Peterson, Kaitlyn Yee/Molly Hovden and Maddy Ihde/Ashley Schwartzhoff.
“Madi Sparrow, playing in her first varsity match, did a fabulous job of counter punching every blow the other girl delivered and won a huge match at No. 5 singles,” said Coach Larry Berland. “Madi kept the faith all the way through her match and notched a huge victory for the Vikes. The same can be said for Kelsey Kruse, who played an excellent match at No. 1 singles.
“With the score after singles 4-2 Oelwein, all the doubles teams knew they had to win in order for Decorah to register a win. The opportunity was there, and the doubles teams did not waste it."
