The Decorah boys basketball team (10-10, 4-7 NEIC) picked up momentum heading into the final week of the regular season, winning two games in two nights over the weekend.
Big road win
A shot as time expired gave the Vikings a victory Friday night in Monona, 65-64 over MFL (15-6).
Decorah showed MFL it could hang with the Bulldogs through the first half. They led 4-3 early in the first and went up 10-8 at the end of the first quarter. The home team pulled away in the last few minutes of the second quarter, rattling off 12 points in the final four minutes to lead 33-21 at halftime.
Decorah came out of the halftime break hot. The Vikes continued to cut into the Bulldog lead. They scored five points in the final minute to lead 47-45 with eight minutes to go. Decorah went up by as many as four at 49-45. However, MFL shot back, taking a two-point lead at 56-54 with three minutes remaining. Decorah led 61-60 with one minute left. However, MFL came back to take the lead. With time winding down, Drake Schuring fired a shot, sinking the game-winner as time expired.
