It was a tough tournament Saturday for the Decorah softball team (3-10, 2-6 NEIC) as the Vikes picked up one win.

Oh so close
Wednesday the Vikings were in conference action at Waverly-Shell Rock (11-3, 7-0 NEIC). The Go-Haws scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to take the victory, 3-2.
Both teams scored a run in the first and one each in the sixth. However, the Go-Hawks came up with the timely hitting to produce the win.
“I am disappointed with any loss, but we played pretty well tonight. Waverly is a very tough team which has the capability to hit the long ball at any time, and we held them to just five hits. Elle Shelton threw a great game and let her defense work behind her. And the defense stepped up for the challenge,” said Coach Teri Olson.
“Offensively, we out-hit them and we attacked from the first pitch. We have so much potential, and it’s going to start getting exciting here watching the team tap into it.”
Decorah had six hits Wednesday. Becca Alcock was 2-for-3. Shelby Stalberger smashed a double and scored a run. Payton Hjerleid, Kassie Hoyme and Tess Olinger all had singles.
Shelton threw 6 and 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on four hits. Annika Vande Krol completed the game.
