The Decorah baseball team will be riding a six-game win streak to open the playoffs Friday night, after the Vikings defeated Waterloo West (2-28) 11-1 in five innings at home Tuesday night.
It was the regular season finale for Decorah, which is 21-10 heading into the playoffs. The Vikes finished second in the conference with an 11-7 mark.
Next up is Charles City (10-19) in the district semifinal. That game is set for Friday, July 18, in Waverly, with a game time of 5 p.m. The winner faces the winner of Class 3A No. 1 Waverly-Shell Rock (32-2) and Waukon (6-24) Monday, July 21, at 7 p.m. at Waverly. The substate final is Wednesday, July 23, at Oelwein at 7 p.m.

Good marks
In Tuesday night’s contest, the Vikings had all three phases of the game clicking in the 11-1 victory. They scored a run in the first, four in the second, five in the third and one in the fourth. For its part, Waterloo scored its only run in the second.
Pitcher Collin Nimrod went all five frames, allowing one unearned runs on five hits and striking out seven.
