The Decorah softball team (1-5, 0-3 NEIC) picked up its first win of the season Friday at the Jesup Tournament.
The Vikings defeated Independence 8-0 in the first game, then fell 10-9 to Waterloo East. Saturday the Vikings again went 1-for-2, with a win over North Fayette and a loss to Center Point-Urbana.
In the first game the Vikings defeated Independence by scoring two runs in the second, three in the third and three more in the sixth.
Decorah managed 14 hits. Lexi Shelton went 3-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Maria Hoyme was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Chelsey Twait had two singles and scored twice. Lindsay Smith and Tori Hartman both had two singles and a run scored.
Hartman was the winning pitcher. She threw all seven innings, giving up five hits and striking out five.
The second game saw the Vikes fall 10-9 to Waterloo East in five innings. East scored four runs in the first, three in the second and three in the third. Decorah answered with three in the first, two in the third and four in the fifth.
Decorah had 12 hits. Hartman was 4-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Smith was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Providing two hits was M. Hoyme. She had two RBIs and a run scored.
Shelton got the loss. She threw three innings, allowing eight hits. Hartman threw the final two innings.
