The bats were alive Monday night as the Decorah softball team (7-13, 3-8 NEIC) exploded for 14 runs on 12 hits to defeat Oelwein (5-19, 2-7 NEIC) 14-2 in six innings.
Decorah fell behind early in Oelwein, giving up two runs in the first inning. However, they continued to push, eventually getting seven runs across in the fourth inning. The Vikes added another run in the fifth, then ended the game in the sixth with six runs.
Decorah took advantage of 12 hits and six walks. Jenna Iverson was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. With two doubles was Tess Olinger. She also had two runs scored and three RBI. Payton Hjerleid had two hits, a run scored and two RBI. Becca Alcock provided two hits and two runs. Maria Hoyme drove in three runs.
