Looking to pick up a conference victory at home, the Decorah baseball team (9-4, 5-2 NEIC) did just that, defeating Waukon (3-8, 0-3 NEIC) 5-3 Friday night.
The Vikes put up two runs in the second, one in the fourth and two in the fifth. However, the Indians came fighting back. In the top of the seventh inning, Waukon got the first two runners on base on a walk. Going to Jacob Kvale as a relief pitcher, Kvale got the next two batters to strike out and ground out, respectively. The next batter singled, followed by a double. The Indians had runners on second and third. Luckily for the Vikes, they got the final out before another run crossed home.
Decorah had four hits in the game. Kvale had two of those, with an RBI. Kyle Kane had a hit and two RBIs while Bryce Pierce had a hit. Collin Nimrod drove in two runs. James Ostlie, Jake Hovden and Bryton Meyer all scored a run while Dustin Cary scored two runs.
Josey Jewell was the winning pitcher. He threw six innings, giving up two runs on three hits. Kvale got the save.
