Playing the final conference games of the year, the Decorah softball team (12-16, 7-11 NEIC) lost twice to New Hampton (21-9, 12-4 NEIC) Tuesday on the road.

It was a slugfest in the first game, with New Hampton edging Decorah 10-9.

The Vikes and the Chickasaws traded runs in the first two innings. In the top of the third, Decorah struck for five runs to make it 6-1. Following another run in the fourth, New Hampton came back with three, cutting the leading to 7-4. Another Decorah run was answered with two by New Hampton, making it 8-6 after five innings. After holding Decorah scoreless in the sixth, the home team crossed home plate four times in the sixth to take a 10-8 lead. Decorah got just one run in the seventh.

Overall, the Vikes had 12 hits. Lexi Shelton went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Kassie Hoyme had a double, a single and drove in four. Lindsay Smith had two hits and an RBI while Becca Alcock had two singles and scored twice. Tori Hartman, Maria Hoyme and Shelby Stalberger had the other hits.
