It was a tough two-game stretch for the Decorah girls basketball team (2-6, 1-3 NEIC) as the Vikes dropped their first two games of 2013.
The Vikings traveled to New Hampton Friday to take on the Chickasaws. It was close in the first half, with the Vikings holding a 13-12 first quarter lead. At the half, the Vikes continued to hold tough, scoring six points in the final minute to lead 35-33.
In the third quarter, the Chickasaws came back, scoring 15 points to take a 48-44 lead. It was all New Hampton in the fourth.
Decorah was led by Anna Madrigal. The senior put up 17 points. Kaitlyn Kregel and Noreen Gentry both scored eight while Abby Arend added seven.
