The regular season for the Decorah softball team (14-17) came to an end Monday night as the Vikings hosted Epworth, Western Dubuque (15-20) in non-conference action.

The Vikes open postseason play today, Thursday, July 11, at Charles City against the Comets. The Vikes won two out of three against Charles City. The winner moves on to face Waverly-Shell Rock at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at Waverly.

In Monday night's first game, the Vikings pulled out a dramatic win in the seventh inning, winning 5-4.

Epworth started the game by scratching across a run in the first. However, the Viking defense stole the show in the frame. The Bobcats had the bases loaded with no outs and managed to get just one run. In Decorah's half of the first, the offense showed its power. With two outs, Chelsey Twait drew a walk. Clean-up hitter Lexi Shelton smashed a double. Twait was able to score on the play. On the throw home to attempt to tag out Twait, Shelton advanced to third. The Epworth catcher threw to third; however, the ball went past the third baseman, allowing Shelton to score on the play and give Decorah a 2-1 lead.
