It was the first tournament of the wrestling season Saturday for the Decorah team.
Battling two ranked teams at the West Delaware Bob Murphy Invite, the Vikings finished third overall with 82 points. Class 2A No. 2 Davenport Assumption won the round-robin invite with 154 points. Class 2A No. 5 West Delaware took second with 143 points.
Three Vikings finished first.
At 106 points, Joe Knoke, a freshman, went 2-0. He pinned Nathan Moritz of Waterloo East in 1:15, then pinned Moritz again in 1:22.
Class 3A No. 8 Kellan O'Shea continued his undefeated senior year. He threw Cody Sahr of Waterloo East in 1:25 to start the day. In the second round, it was a close 9-8 decision over Connor Wickman of West Delaware.
Heavyweight Carter Zidlicky was undefeated on the day. He pinned Omar Begic of Waterloo East in just 59 seconds. In the second round it was a 12-6 decision over Richard Heveron of West Delaware. Battling Jacob Odean of Davenport Assumption, Zidlicky won by fall in 3:06.
Alec Fjelstul finished second at 152 pounds. He first threw Tim Tutton of West Delaware in 3:52. Round two was a loss to Class 2A No. 4 Danny Bush. Fjelstul came back to pin Chase Pryor of Waterloo East in 3:08.
