Showing off the new swim facility at Luther, the Decorah swim team hosted the North Central conference swim meet Saturday.

The Vikes finished second overall with 326 points. NCMP-Newton won the meet with 410 points.

Jessica Keifer of Charles City and Beth Mitchell of Grinnell were named the co-athletes of the year. NCMP-Newton was honored as having the coaching staff of the year.

In addition, one athlete from every team was named to the all-academic team. Honored for Decorah was Alyssa Collins.



Lone gold

Decorah had one event win the gold medal. Freshman Katie Hagensick was the champion in the 500-meter swim. With a time of 5:34.67, K. Hagensick won by almost 10 seconds, over second place Maddie Swanson of Boone. K. Hagensick's fastest split was 28.47 seconds in her first 50-meters.

The 200-meter medley relay earned Decorah 26 points by taking second place. Taylor Martinek, Maria Lea, K. Hagensick and Monica Tappe posted a time of 1:59.83, just missing first by two seconds.
