Decorah fans who traveled to Calmar Saturday night drove home happy as the Decorah girls basketball team (4-9, 2-5 NEIC) defeated South Winn (10-5, 9-2 UIC) 47-33.



Road victory

Kayla Ingvalson got things started for Decorah with a free throw. SW's Jenn Panos answered with a basket. South Winn took a 6-2 lead on a basket by Abby Phillips and two free throws by Jessica Lensing. The quarter closed with nine straight points by Decorah - six in a row from freshman Taylor Shuring, two by Noreen Gentry off an Abby Arend steal and a free throw by Kaitlyn Kregel.

South Winn started the second with a basket by Kennidee DeVilbiss. Arend responded for Decorah with a basketball. South Winn cut the lead to 13-12 with baskets by Brittany Shindelar and Phillips. After trading baskets, Decorah built the lead back to four on two free throws by Arend and one by Gentry. Arend hit two more free throws to make it 20-14 late in the second. A basket by SW's Philips and another free throw by Arend made it 21-16 Decorah at the half.
