Early in the season, the Decorah girls tennis team continued to show improvement in its two outings over the weekend.

On the road
Thursday the Vikes fell to one of the early season favorites, Dubuque Wahlert, 2-7.
Laura Munkel, playing at the No. 1 singles spot, defeated Abby Franzen 7-5, 4-6, 1 (10-6). In doubles play, Anna Spencer and Kally Peterson knocked off Franzen and Katie Hendricks 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).
“Wahlert, coached by former Decorah standout tennis player Zach Fromm, did not disappoint while displaying fundamentally sound play that forced Decorah to pick up their game, accordingly,” said Coach Larry Berland. “Decorah’s inexperienced players on this year’s team have been forced to mature quickly as we have played several of the best teams in the state already and have more down the pipe. I’m beginning to see us try things in the heat of the battle indicating we are becoming more confident with our abilities at every level.”
Four matches went into tiebreakers, with Decorah winning two of those.
In JV action, Decorah went 9-5-2.
