It was a successful trip to Des Moines for the Decorah girls track team.
The Vikings had seven entries to the Drake Relays, held Thursday through Saturday, at the same venue where the state track meet will be held in less than a month.
The best finish was posted by the 4x400 relay quartet. Dailen Folkedahl, Taylor Schuring, Tess Olinger and Kaitlyn Kregel just missed qualifying for the finals by a little over a second. They clocked in at 4:02.90. The top-eight advanced to Saturday’s final.
The sprint medley relay just missed a top-10 place. Alexis Hove, Olinger, Kalle Solberg and Schuring had a time of 1:50.23, good for 11th. The winner was Davenport Assumption in 1:45.79.
Olivia Sandvig competed in the 100-meter hurdles. The sophomore took 16th in 16.15 seconds. Mary Young of Urbandale was the winner in 14.30 seconds.
Kassie Hoyme twice took the field. She was 17th in the shot put with a best of 36 feet, 6 inches. Shelby Gunnells of Solon was the winner in 42 feet, 4.25 inches. In the discus, Hoyme was 18th with a throw of 113 feet, 2 inches. Winner was Kiana Phelps of Kingsly-Person with a throw of 151 feet, 10 inches.
The 4x200 placed 16th. Sandvig, Folkedahl, Hove and Solberg had a time of 1:47.05.
Monica Malila, Hove, Monica Tappe and Folkedahl clocked in a 51.11 seconds in the 4x100, taking 26th in the prelims.
South Winn’s Abby Phillips competed in the high jump. She failed to make the qualifying mark of 5 feet.
