Facing the Class 4A No. 7 team, the Decorah volleyball team (8-19, 2-4 NEIC) struggled against Waverly-Shell Rock (38-6, 5-1 NEIC) Tuesday night in Waverly, falling 0-3.
Game scores were 9-25, 13-25, 4-25.
With the conference season concluded, the Vikes finished fifth in the league, ahead of Crestwood and Waukon. Charles City was the conference champion with a 6-0 mark.
During Tuesday night's battle, Decorah had 13 kills, 55 attack attempts, 13 assists, 24 digs, two blocks and served 24-for-28 with one ace.
Riley Hubka served 7-for-7 with the only ace, along with a team-leading eight digs. Maria Hoyme served 6-for-6 with three assists and four digs. Ruth Ann Sutton and Jaci Zidlicky each made a block assist. Teeya Hovden made eight assists, with two digs. Shelby Stalberger provided four digs. Tess Olinger led the way at the net with five kills and 25 attack attempts. Kassie Hoyme made three kills.
The Vikings are at the NEIC tournament Saturday, Oct. 19, at Oelwein, beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, they play the final regular season match at Union La Porte City, beginning at 5 p.m.
