In just the second series of the season, the Decorah baseball team (3-1) traveled to Maquoketa Friday, earning a split with the Cardinals.
In the first game, the Vikes fell 6-5. After Decorah took a 2-0 lead, Maquoketa battled for four runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Vikes tied the game in the top of the fifth. However, the Cardinals added a run in the fifth and one in the sixth. The Vikes managed just one run in the top of the seventh.
Decorah had six hits. Jacob Kvale had a double and a run scored. Josey Jewell had a double and two RBIs. Kyle Kane pounded two singles. Collin Nimrod had a hit, two runs scored and two RBIs. Dustin Cary had a hit and a run scored. James Ostlie drove in a run while Eric Smorstad scored once.
Jewell took the loss. He went 5 1/3 innings, with seven runs (five earned) on four hits, five strikeouts and five walks. Cary finished the game.
