The temperatures were cold but the action was hot on the courts Tuesday night as the Decorah girls tennis team defeated visiting Charles City 5-4 in the first home match of the year.
The two teams split singles action, with Decorah pulling out the final doubles match to get the win.
“Over the years, I cannot begin to count the number of matches that have been decided by the last doubles match of the evening. It was a great way to keep the fans excited right up to the end,” said Coach Larry Berland.
“Kelsey Kruse, Katelyn Yee and Molly Hovden did everything possible to pull out a Viking victory by winning their singles and doubles match. Molly played a super match at No. 6 and then teamed with Katelyn to play a near flawless match at No. 3 doubles. Molly has really been playing some great tennis and really stabilizes the No. 6 singles position.
“Meanwhile, Katelyn also showcased her skills in her singles match. Katelyn is becoming much more consistent and aggressive with her shots.”
