It was a night to celebrate for the Decorah boys soccer team (2-4) as the Vikes defeated Dubuque Wahlert, the defending state champions, 3-1 at home Monday.

Wahlert opened the game with a corner kick goal in the first half. It didn't take long for Decorah to respond. Blake Klein was on the move when he was tripped in the 18-yard box. Ethan Pankow converted the penalty kick, tying the game at one. In the second half, Decorah came out on fire. Jakob Frueh scored early in the second half on a volley from outside the box. Josh Miller then took advantage of a goalkeeping mistake.

"We put in a performance that was of a high quality tonight, and I feel like this result was well deserved. We've had a run of games where I thought we were the better team, but left the game with nothing to show for it," said Coach David Keller.
