Looking for the first conference victory of the season Monday, the Decorah softball team (2-7, 0-4 NEIC) fell at home to Charles City (9-5, 4-3 NEIC) 9-6.

"Unfortunately, we suffer another loss tonight, but we played pretty well. Charles City had three very fast slappers in their line-up, and I think we played them tough. They were also dangerous on the bases, but overall, I think we had a good game plan to combat them," said Coach Teri Olson.

After the Comets scored a run in the first, the Vikes took the lead by scoring two in the bottom half of the inning. The Comets tied the game in the top of the third, then retook the lead in the fourth by scoring four runs. Decorah added a run in the bottom of the fourth, but it was answered by the Comets in the top of the fifth. Decorah made it a one-run game at 7-6 heading into the seventh by scoring three runs in the bottom of the third. However, Charles City scored two runs in the seventh and shut down the Viking offense in the last half inning.
