With two games in two nights, the Decorah girls basketball team (6-12, 4-7 NEIC) battled for a split of the contests.
It was a road victory for the Vikings Friday night in Cresco, defeating Crestwood (11-6, 5-6 NEIC) 41-36.
The Vikes had a good first quarter, scoring 15 points. The defense also stepped up, allowing just six points to make it 15-6 at the break. However, the Vikes went ice cold in the second quarter, scoring just two points. Despite the offensive struggles, the Vikes led 17-12 at halftime.
In the third, Decorah scored nine points while allowing 12 to make it just a two-point game with eight mintues remaining, 26-24 Vikings. Crestwood came back to tie the game at 28-all with six minutes remaining. However, Decorah maintained composure. The Vikes took a two-point lead, but Crestwood made it 33-32 with three minutes remaining. A two-point game with one minute left, Decorah put it away.
Abby Arend led the way with 14 points. Noreen Gentry had 11 while Anna Madrigal put up five.
