The Decorah girls soccer team (6-4-2) had two ties and one loss at the Waverly Tournament Saturday.

The varsity first battled Mason City, with the game going into overtime on a 0-0 score. In OT, Mason City scored via golden goal to win. Decorah outshot the Mohawks 14-6.

"We told the team before this game, this is going to be a battle of wills, because this team is so similar to ours, and it was. We played 85 percent of the game in the middle third of the field," said Coach Julie Shockey. "Ultimately it comes down to the fact we didn't take advantage of our opportunities and made a couple of defensive errors that cost us the game."

In the second game, the Vikes again went to OT, this time with a 1-1 tie with Des Moines East. Again, the golden goal was too much for the Vikes. Both teams made 13 shots. Shelby Stalberger found Lindsay Smith for the goal.
