South Winn's day
The Warriors had two of their heavier weights bring home a gold medal.
First was junior Ryan Hageman, who missed all of last season with an injury. Hageman, wrestling at 182 pounds, started the day with a bye. In the quarterfinals, he threw Nick Miller of Central City-Springville in 2:15. Moving to the semifinals, it was a 15-6 major decision over Turkey Valley's Tyler Sawyer. Battling Tyler Larson of Nashua-Plainfield in the finals, Hageman won 8-1.
The other champion was Class 1A No. 5 Chris Brincks. At 220 pounds, Brincks received a bye to begin the day. In the quarterfinals, it was a pin in just 2:59 over Travis McMillan of Oelwein. It was another fall in the semifinals, this time in just 22 seconds over Bryce Bilharz of Nashua-Plainfield. Brincks faced Kyle Reicks of Turkey Valley in the finals. Although it was close, Brincks won by a 5-0 decision.
Sophomore Landers Kuboushek also placed in the top-three. After a bye, Kuboushek defeated Levi Klimesh of Turkey Valley 5-0. He fell in the semifinals to Class 2A No. 9 Brandon Slifka of Crestwood. Moving to the consolation bracket, Kuboushek pinned Dawston Regan of Waukon in 1:47, then won third place by picking up a 6-0 tie breaker win over Klimesh again.
