It was a good start to the week for the Turkey Valley baseball team (5-5, 3-1 UIC) as the Trojans won two games.
In the first game Monday night the Trojans defeated Clayton Ridge-Central 9-7. The Trojans scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead. CR-C added a run in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 6-4 lead.
However, the Trojans put together a big fifth inning. Mike Novotny started with a walk, then Ryan Busta and Luke Kuennen singled to load the bases. Jacob Hackman drove in Novotny on a single. Following an out, Kyle Reicks walked to bring in another run. The game was tied on an Austin Vrzak single, in which Vrzak reached first base safely. No. 9 hitter Riley Busta smashed a single to bring in two runs. Riley Meirick hit a sacrifice to score the final run of the inning, making it 9-6. CR-C put up one more in the top of the seventh.
