The Turkey Valley boys golf team has the talent – and the looks – to be the team to beat in the Upper Iowa Conference this spring.
With all six of their top players from a year ago, the Trojans will be strong with seven returning letter winners.
Hoping all the hours logged on the courses this summer pay off is Head Coach John Reicks, who has led the program for three seasons.
Last season the Trojans were young, with no seniors and just two returning letter winners – Jacob Hackman and Justin Izer.
The spring proved to be troubling for the Trojans as the wet weather forced six meets to be cancelled. They finished the year 2-4 overall. At the Upper Iowa Conference meet, the Trojans finished eighth by shooting 396. Hackman led the team by taking 37th overall with a 95 (47-48). Ryan Busta was right behind with a 97 (47-52), taking 42nd. Other results were Tom Reicks (100, 45th), Travis Reicks (104, 48th), J. Izer (108, 52nd) and Brogan Mihm (132, 59th).
At the sectional meet, the Trojans finished seventh with a 395. To. Reicks led the way by firing a 97 overall, good for 26th. J. Izer carded a 98, good for 29th. Also competing were Hackman (100, 33rd), Ry. Busta (100, 33rd), Tr. Reicks (100, 33rd) and Justin Kime (112, 44th).
