The Turkey Valley girls basketball team (4-7, 3-6 UIC) faced a battle Saturday against league-leading Sumner-Fred (12-2, 11-0 UIC).

In the end, the Cougars proved too tough for the Trojans, pulling away for a 52-42 victory.

"We did a great job of taking care of the ball. We just didn't have enough shots fall," said Co-Coaches Mike Kuennen and Dan Stepan.

The Trojans looked great to start the game. The defense was stout against the Cougars, limiting them to just four points and taking a 12-4 advantage. In the second quarter, the Cougars made a comeback, posting 15 points to make it just a one-point Trojan lead at the half, 20-19.
