Trojans grab three UIC victories

The Turkey Valley baseball team (13-12, 8-4 UIC) picked up three conference victories over the weekend.

The first game Thursday against MFL was a five-inning affair, with the Trojans taking it 11-1.
After getting a run in the first, TV added two in the second, thanks to a two-run single by Riley Meirick scoring Kyle Reicks and Riley Busta. In the fourth TV got two runs by a Dalton Hackman double. D. Hackman scored on an error. TV put the game away in the fifth with five runs. The inning was highlighted by a two-run single by Ryan Busta.
"Probably our best team effort of the year. We did lots of things well," said Coach Dan Stepan.
The Trojans had 11 hits. D. Hackman was 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. Meirick and Mike Novotny both had two singles and two RBIs. Ry. Busta had a single and two RBIs. Ri. Busta scored two runs while Justin Izer had two singles.
Ry. Busta was the winning pitcher. He allowed one run on three hits.
The Trojans had to be persistent in the second game, coming from behind twice to get the 7-6 win.
TV was behind 3-2 after the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fifth, the Trojans scored three times. D. Hackman started things with a single. Jacob Hackman then walked. D. Hackman scored on a K. Reicks single. Nic Schaufenbuel drove in J. Hackman on a single. Ri. Busta walked. The final run scored when Meirick reached base on an error.
MFL came back to score three in the top of the sixth to again lead 6-5.
The Trojans answered again. In the bottom of the sixth, D. Hackman reached on an error. He scored on a Schaufenbuel out.
Now tied 6-6, the game headed into the bottom of the seventh. Justin Izer and Meirick started the inning with back-to-back walks. Following a sacrifice, Ry. Busta drove in the game-winning run on a bunt.
"We had to come from behind twice. I thought the kids had very good at-bats when we needed base runners down the stretch. They picked each other up when we needed to make a play."
In this game the Trojans had eight hits. D. Hackman was 2-for-4 with two singles and two runs scored. Reicks had two hits. Meirick, Novotny, Ry. Busta and Schaufenbuel all had one hit.
Izer was the winning pitcher. He threw the final two innings, allowing three runs (only two earned) on three hits. Ri. Busta started the game.
