With limited practice time before the first game of the season, the Turkey Valley softball team (0-1) fell to non-conference foe New Hampton Monday night 9-5.

The Trojans got off to a fast start, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first, answering the Chickasaw's two runs in the top of the inning. New Hampton responded with three runs in the top of the second to take a 5-3 advantage. TV tied the game at 5-all in the fourth; however, New Hampton put up one of the sixth and three in the seventh.

The Trojans produced five hits. Jess Hansmeier, who last year had her season end early with a knee injury, came back this year with a 2-for-3 night at the plate, including a double and two RBIs. Johanna Blazek had a single and scored a run. Allie Njus pounded a triple and scored once. Macey Winter had an RBI and a single. Allison Kuennen, Kalyn Kruse and Mariah Schmitt all scored a run.

Sara Fischer was the losing pitcher. She threw the final two innings. Hansmeier started the game.

The Trojans hosted Charles City Wednesday. Friday, May 24, they go to North Butler, beginning at 6 p.m.
