The season opened Thursday night for the Turkey Valley volleyball team (0-1).

The Trojans traveled to New Hampton (0-2), falling to the Chickasaws 1-3 (17-25, 15-25, 26-24, 23-25).

Johanna Blazek led the way at the net. She had nine kills and 33 attack attempts, along with 10 digs and serving 18-for-18. Josie Einwalter had six kills and 12 attack attempts.

Ashley Kurash served 17-for-17 and led the way with 16 assists. Kayla Schaufenbuel served 13-for-14 and had six kills with 24 attack attempts. Taylor Novotny had 10 assists and seven digs. Arianna Rausch served 9-for-10 and had 18 digs.

"It took us a bit to get into the game, but once we found the groove we stepped up to play," asid Coach Tammy Vrzak. "Kayla Schaufenbuel came through tough in the middle, and our serving was great. I wish we could play them one more time later in the season as I think they would see a different team than our first game team."

The Trojans are at Kee High Thursday, Sept. 5, at 7:30 p.m. The first home game is Monday, Sept. 9.
