Playing in front of the home crowd, the Turkey Valley baseball team (17-14, 9-8 UIC) picked up one win in two tries Monday night against Starmont (2-20, 2-14 UIC).
The Trojans won the first game 13-4 but fell in the second 8-7.
In the first, the Trojans scored at least one run in every inning but the second on the way to the big win. The fifth inning is when the Trojans exploded for six runs. The inning started with a hit by pitch and walk. Ryan Izer drove in two with a single. A double by Justin Hackman drove in one. Michael Novotny kept things going with an RBI single. Kyle Reick’s two RBI single brought in the final runs of the frame.
Turkey Valley managed eight hits. Ryan Busta was 2-for-3 with two RBI, including a two-run home run. Novotny also had two hits. R. Izer drove in three.
