It was a night of unselfish play Friday as the Turkey Valley girls basketball team (1-0) stared the season strong with a 46-25 win at home over Dunkerton.

The Trojans took the lead early and never let up, taking a 9-5 lead at the end of the first. In the second, they extended it by six, going up 23-13. A 21-point third quarter effort made it 44-19 with eight minutes remaining.

"The girls played unselfish as a team on offense and hustled and worked hard on defense," said Coaches Dan Stepan and Mike Kuennen.

Senior Allie Njus led the team with 16 points on a 8-of-19 shooting night. She also had three offensive rebounds and five defensive for eight total, along with five assists, three steals and two blocks. Amanda Mueterthies put up 11 points, shooting 5-of-7, with five total rebounds and three blocks. Olivia Reicks chipped in eight points, with two rebounds and eight steals. Macey Winter added five points.

The Trojans are at Valley in Upper Iowa Conference play today, Tuesday, Nov. 20, with the varsity at 7:30 p.m.
