The Decorah boys soccer team opened the season with a 1-0 loss to Dubuque Senior Tuesday night at home.
Senior scored its only goal in the second half.
“We created chances and were looking dangerous whenever we got the ball into our opponents final third. In the second half, we conceded a goal on a long throw-in, where we fell asleep for a couple of seconds and lost our marking assignments,” said Coach David Keller. “I think it was a really good showing from our young guys though, a lot of whom have never seen a single varsity minute. We were playing against a good, athletic team who is a class above us, and had we taken our chances in the first half, I think we could’ve won. So it was definitely a good start, albeit a scoreline we don’t like. We’ve got a good platform to build off of though.”
