A 12-point run in the first quarter led to the end of the season for the South Winn boys basketball team in the first round of the Class 2A basketball playoffs Tuesday night.
The Warriors fell to North Fayette Valley 67-62 in West Union.
The TigerHawks (11-11) move on to face Denver (12-9) in the district semifinal today, Thursday, Feb. 20.
South Winn ends the season 13-8.
The Warriors only had one lead in the team, going up 5-4 four minutes in. From there, the TigerHawks went on a 12-0 run. South Winn stopped the bleeding when Garrett Bohach hit two free throws to make it 16-7 NFV at the first-quarter break.
The TigerHawks maintained its lead in the second, going into halftime up 33-22.
The Warriors made a run of it in the third, cutting the advantage to four at 48-44.
Treyton Jacobsen drove into the lane early in the fourth, missing a shot. However, Jordan Rommes cleaned it up, getting fouled on the attempt. With his free throws, it was 48-46. With just under three minutes remaining and the Warriors down 56-53, senior Trevor Schweinefus hit two free throws to make it 56-55. The TigerHawks came back with two three-pointers, increasing the lead to 65-59 with under a minute left. Rommes canned a jumper to make the lead 65-61. A steal by Bohach gave the Warriors a chance to cut the lead even further. Following a foul, T. Schweinefus hit one of two free throws to make it 65-62. The Warriors got the ball with time running out but a missed shot, and a rebound by NFV gave the home team the win.
