Following a delay for a few weeks, the Turkey Valley girls and boys golf teams finally got on the course Thursday.
The Trojans competed at Backbone Country Club near Strawberry Point against the Stars.
The girls defeated Starmont 206 to 208. Junior Nicole Meirick was the meet medalist with a 48. Runner up was a tie between Sara Leonard and Delaney Baumgartner of Starmont with 49s.
Contributing to Turkey Valley’s score were Josie Einwalter, 51; Jensen Winter, 53; and Taylor Novotny, 54. Also competing for Turkey Valley were Abbey Ott, 67; Nicole Schmitt, 68; Ari Rausch, 69; Josine Gossling, 69; Jenna Winter, 73; and Allie Rausch, 73.
“I was very pleased with the way the girls opened the season. The layout was shortened for the girls so a greater number of golfers could be on the course so the scores are a little misleading, but the TV girls did a great job for the first meet of the year,” said Coach John Reicks. “Both our veterans and newcomers played well, and it was good to see some smiling faces on the course after the long, brutal winter.”
