Getting on the greens for the first time all year, the Turkey Valley boys and girls golf team traveled to Guttenberg to take on Clayton Ridge Monday in the opening meet of the season.
The girls team defeated the Eagles 264 to 267 while the boys lost 225 to 181.
"This was a typical first meet of the year other than the fact this was the first time on a course this spring for our kids," said Coach John Reicks. "I saw a lot of things we did well, and of course a lot of things that we need to work on to improve as the season progresses."
The girls were led by Nicole Meirick, who took the runner-up spot with a 61. Toril Einwalter fired a 64. Rounding out the four-person score was Robin Kime with a 69 and Jamee Blazek carding a 70.
Also competing were Taylor Novotny, 78; Shelbee Winter, 82; and Josie Einwalter, 83.
