In the final games before the postseason, the Turkey Valley softball team (17-17, 13-9) defeated Clayton Ridge (18-16, 13-9) in two contests.
The Trojans finished the UIC season tied for fifth with Clayton Ridge and Edgewood-Colesburg with 13-9 marks.
Next up is the playoffs. The Trojans hosted Riceville Wednesday, after the Wildcats defeated Postville 10-6 in the first round. The winner advances to the regional semifinal Friday, July 11, against the winner of Kee and Central, with the game at 7 p.m. in New Hampton. The regional final is Monday, July 14, at 7 p.m. in New Hampton.
In the first game Monday night, the Trojans poured on 16 hits and scored 22 runs to win 22-8. Already up 4-0, TV scored 10 runs in the third. Clayton Ridge responded with six in the third and two in the fourth to make it 14-8. However, TV added one in the fifth and seven in the sixth to move on.
