After an extended break away from the competition pool, the Decorah girls swim team was back and better than ever Saturday at the Charles City Invite.

The Vikes secured second place with 531 points. Spencer just edged Decorah with 544 points.

Freshman Katie Hagensick was strong in the 200-yard IM. With times of 30.03, 38.55, 43.77 and 31.99, K. Hagensick was the champion in 2:24.34, cutting almost one second off her best time and taking first by well over five seconds. She also brought home a medal in the 100-yard butterfly. In this event she posted splits of 31.87 and 37.46 to take second in 1:09.33.

Michelle Halse was the winner on the diving board. The junior posted 191.45 points to take first. Teammate Ali Voigt wasn't far behind, taking second with 153.95 points.

Taylor Martinek was the champion of the backstroke. The junior cut over four seconds off her seed time and won the event in 1:05.46, just out-touching Erin Dau of Spencer.
