The Decorah swim team got the chance to see what it still needs to work on before the district meet Saturday when the team split in two to compete at the Wahawk Invite.
The relay-only meet allowed unlimited entries, with no team scoring. The second meet consisted of prelim heats in the morning and finals in the afternoon. In that meet, the Vikings finished third with 247 points.
"I was pleased with the team's focus and discipline as we were the only team other than Vinton to have no disqualifications," said Coach Drew Pellett. "Due to the smaller rosters, some of the swimmers swam in consecutive events and also swam more distance than anticipated. We trailed Waterloo West most of the afternoon, but our 400 free relay team of Trevor Malven, Will Yahr, Tyler Peterson and Trevor Massman lowered their time by nine seconds to top the Waterloo West team, which had beaten them in the preliminary round."
